We are humbled and honored to announce that we will be bringing our beer to a long-admired craft beer mecca, the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon and Idaho! It was westward that our Co-Founders traveled in their discovery of craft beer some 25 years ago and we’ve long anticipated the day that our beers would be available in this region.
Behold as the kooky kids from our Education Team combine the two greatest things to happen to mornings: Breakfast Stout and cereal. We even tossed them in the very same bowl, ’cause why not?
It’s hard to believe it’s that time of year again. You know, that time where we take knives to pumpkins, gut them with our bare hands and carve our whims into their flesh while snacking on their toasted, perfectly seasoned innards. Since we’re not all inspired and skilled knife-artists, we thought we’d give you all a little creative and technical help with these killer pumpkin-carving stencils featuring the KBS skull (spooky), logos and more! We’ve long believed in using only the best ingredients, knowing they result in the best flavor. With a beer like Breakfast Stout, a harmonious combination of oats, chocolate and coffee, it’s crucial that each of those ingredients are of the highest quality.
After we switched coffee suppliers to source higher quality product, a move that felt like breaking up with your high school sweetheart, our hometown neighbors at Ferris Coffee and Nut embarked on an ambitious journey to win back their role as roasters of the coffee used in Breakfast Stout.

ArtPrize, the world’s largest art competition, is well underway in our hometown of Grand Rapids, MI, and as proud partners of the event, we could not be more excited. Our taproom has served as a venue to host artists since the very first ArtPrize took place (seven years ago!) and we are happy to undertake that role once again. Make sure to check out the six artists and their work we’re hosting this year if you stop by the taproom in the next two weeks. Here’s a little info on each one:
Every year our Brewmaster, Jeremy, and a few other folks from the brewery head to Yakima Valley, Washington, to meet with hop farmers, check out this year’s harvest and select the hops we’ll be brewing with in the coming year. To bring you an inside look at the hop harvest process, Jeremy logged a recap each day, shared alongside photos snapped throughout the trip. If you’re someone who appreciates the “craft” in craft brewing, this behind-the-scenes look will be right up your alley.
This past Saturday, September, 10, we partnered with FOX17 to host the very first Tribute on the Grand, a fundraising event in support of Grand Rapids Whitewater. Despite the inclement weather early in the day, the event was a huge success, raising $200,000 (our initial goal was $25,000!) for Grand Rapids Whitewater and their efforts to restore the rapids in the Grand River.
Thousands of attendees drank, danced and reveled at Ah-Nab-Awen Park on the banks of the Grand River while a lineup of four different tribute bands provided the soundtrack for an unforgettable evening. The beer dinner, catered by The Gilmore Collection and held on the adjacent Gillette Bridge, was also a huge success with all 360 seats selling out in only a week!
For those of you who have been to our taproom lately, you may have noticed some construction going on in front of the deli windows. Well, as it turns out, we are expanding our existing deli with an external ordering “counter” to accommodate an improved service style and, in order to finish the project up, we will be closing for several days next week. We’re gearing up for a few great pairing events this fall, where we invite you to explore how various styles of food pair alongside beers from our lineup. Hosted here at the brewery, these events are an opportunity for our kitchen staff, as well as visiting chefs from the community, to design dishes that encourage you to expand your palate and discover how food and beer can come together to create a beautiful harmony.
- September 22: Palate Exploration Series featuring chef Jenna Arcidiano of Amore Trattoria. Chef Jenna, known in the Grand Rapids area for her exquisite authentic Italian cooking, will be preparing dishes that represent the five cardinals flavors: sour, sweet, salty, bitter and umami. We’ll discuss each of these unique flavors and pair various beers with them to explore how they play off one another. 6-8pm. $30/person. Tickets available here.
- October 13: Palate Exploration Series featuring The Apple Haus at Robinette’s Orchard. The team from Robinette’s will be joining us again this year to help showcase their fall favorites, including gourmet donuts and fudge. We’ll be pouring a few of our beers and exploring how the flavors of the food and beer pair alongside each other. 6-8pm. $30/person. Tickets available here.
- November 3: Palate Exploration Series featuring Mokaya Artisan Chocolates and Confections. Mokaya has been blowing our minds with their amazing chocolate for a while now and we’re excited to finally bring them in for an evening of chocolate and beer pairings. The best part? They’re bringing along their beer infused chocolates. 6-8pm. $30/person. Tickets available here.
In 2010, we partnered with Grand Rapids WhiteWater, a group interested in revitalizing the rapids in the Grand River here in our hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In support of GRWW, we’re now hosting Tribute on the Grand, a free, all-ages outdoor celebration featuring a beer tent, food trucks and live music in downtown’s Ah-Nab-Awen Park on September 10. Proceeds from this event will go towards GRWW’s mission. But what does that entail?

It sounds like the start of another cheesy joke but when my Grand Rapids WhiteWater (GRWW) team sat down with the folks at Founders Brewing Co. back in 2010, it was the beginning of an awesome partnership that would change the course of the Grand River. Literally!
Here’s a super easy way to cook some fall-off-the-bone spare ribs without any crazy cooking equipment..and with the addition of some delicious All Day IPA. Some people say it’s blasphemy to cook ribs in the oven. Y’know what we say? No one has to know!
All Day to Spare (Ribs)
Ingredients:
- 2 racks of spare ribs (remove any excess fat, silver-skin membrane, etc.)
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1.5 cups ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1/4 cup ground coriander
- 1/4 cup ground ginger
- 3 tablespoons turmeric
- 1 tablespoon nutmeg

Yup, it’s true. We’ve got a new one comin’ at you this fall: PC Pils. Look for this profoundly crushable, pleasantly crisp Pilsner in 6-pack bottles, 15-pack cans and on draft this October (shipping in September)!
As big fans of this easy-drinking style, we knew we wanted to stay true to its characteristics while giving it our undeniable Founders twist. For us, that comes in the form of flavor-packed American hops. While Noble hops have been the preferred choice of Pilsner brewers around the world, we went with some of our favorite American varieties. Piney Chinook, pleasantly citrus Cascade and punchy Centennial make this an easy-drinker with floral hop characteristics. PC Pils clocks in at 5.5% ABV and 45 IBUs.
Join us at Celebration! Cinemas this fall for the Founders Film Series, where we pair our favorite movies alongside beers form our lineup. Movies are chosen for different reasons: sometimes the titles pair nicely or there’s a unique character reference. Often, it’s simply because we love the beer and the movie and want the pleasure of enjoying ’em at the same time. We hope you do too!

When we set out to create All Day IPA, we wanted a beer that would make the perfect companion to our adventures, anything from conquering a long hike to relaxing around a campfire. We didn’t want to compromise on flavor, yet we knew we wanted to be able to crack into more than one during a “session,” whatever that may be. Alas, All Day IPA was born. It’s full flavor that won’t quit so you don’t have to either.
From August 1 to September 1, 2016, you can unlock our “Session Boldly” Untappd badge when you check-in All Day IPA in cans, bottles or on draft. You can find it on draft or in 6-pack bottles and 15-pack cans using our beer finder (and mobile app).
Fresh from the farmer’s market or your very own garden, ’tis the season for fresh cucumbers. And if you’re like us, this means your craving for crisp, refreshing pickles is at an all-time high. To quickly satisfy that craving we asked a local culinary guru, Justin Golinski, to put together a quick pickle recipe, also known to some as “refrigerator pickles.” The twist? A delicious All Day IPA brine, of course!
When we set out to brew All Day IPA, we had one goal in mind: create a beer with the full-flavor we love, but with a low enough ABV that we could keep our senses sharp. We wanted a beer that would be the perfect companion to our adventures, anything from conquering a long hike to relaxing around a campfire. Something we could tuck into a kayak, beach bag or tackle box and crack open during one of those sessions that makes life so sweet.

UPDATE 3:30pm 9/10/16: Tribute on the Grand will go on rain or shine! The forecast looks like it will be clearing up before 4pm, however we suggest bringing rain gear and chairs for seating given the grass will be wet. Beer dinner attendees should dress in layers as it may be a bit windy on the Gillett Bridge. See you out there!
Join us September 10, 2016 for our FREE, all-ages celebration, Tribute on the Grand! The event, featuring live tribute bands, food trucks and a beer tent, will take place from 4-11pm at Ah-Nab-Awen Park in downtown Grand Rapids.
Proceeds from the event will support Grand Rapids Whitewater, a group of individuals, rowing and paddling clubs, anglers and businesses dedicated to helping Green Grand Rapids achieve the dream of putting the namesake rapids back in the Grand River for everyone’s enjoyment. Their goal is to partner with the city to create a safer, more exciting river experience for everyone.

We will also be hosting a sold out beer dinner that evening from 5:30-8pm on the Gillett Bridge, adjacent to Ah-Nab-Awen Park and overlooking the Grand River. Our Co-Founders, Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers, will be hosting the dinner, where we will beer serving our Michigan-only release, Palm Reader alongside beers brewed just for the event.
We took to the streets of Grand Rapids this past weekend to celebrate our ninth annual Founders Fest: a Celebration of Beer and Music. Despite the soaring temperatures, people turned out in droves to see the amazing musical performances, check out local art, eat awesome food from local vendors and, of course, drink plenty of kick-ass beer.
