Doom Is Our Next Backstage Series Release

**Updated 3/4/13**

We plan to introduce Doom, a bourbon-barrel-aged Imperial IPA, this April to mark the sixth installment in our Backstage Series. Like all Backstage Series beers, Doom will be sold in 750mL bottles. It has a suggested retail price of $12.99 per bottle.

Doom is unleashed when our award-winning specialty Imperial IPA, Double Trouble, is aged in bourbon barrels for four months to create a distinct flavor experience. So, while Double Trouble is brewed to turn your world upside down, Doom is brewed to tear it apart: pungent hops conspire with boozy bourbon notes to send your senses spinning.

Known as “Hand of Doom” when originally brewed for our taproom, this 10% ABV beer is a unique addition to our barrel-aged repertoire, which has mostly consisted of malt-forward beers such as Backwoods Bastard and Kentucky Breakfast Stout.

“Doom is one of those beers that we’ve talked about releasing ever since we started the Backstage Series,” says Co-Founder and Vice President of Brand & Education Dave Engbers. “It’s hop heavy. It’s barrel-aged. It’s unapologetic. It’s the definition of a Founders beer.”

Doom will be released in limited quantities across our distribution footprint beginning on Monday, April 22. On-site, Doom will be a pre-ticketed, six-day release, running from Sunday, April 14 (DAY #1), through Friday, April 19 (DAY #6). Please note this update: These tickets will now go on-sale via a new Ticketing Partner, EventBrite. The on-sale date has been pushed back one week, to Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 11:00AM (EST). Please bookmark this page for the release day: http://foundersbrewingdoom.eventbrite.com/. There will be a limit of one ticket per person, with each ticket valid for the purchase of TWO bottles of Doom (at $13 each), only on the specific release date listed on the ticket.

We expect to release two more Backstage Series beers in 2013.

Also, here is our updated availability calendar, with Doom plugged into its April release window:

  1. Will it be normal taproom hours on Sunday, April 14th which is Day #1 release for Doom or would you maybe open earlier?

  2. Will this be available in kegs through the distributor? Curious if this beer might be able to be sold in my bar/restaurant.

  3. Will the name on the ticket have to match the name on your ID or can I buy a ticket and have a friend pick up the beer for me (assuming he doesn’t also have a ticket for that day)?

    • We will likely handle this in the same fashion as our KBS release. So, on each day of the release, we will require each purchaser to have a valid, unused ticket for that day of the release, and a valid legal ID proving the customer is at least 21 years old. Only one ticket can be used per person during the entire release.

Because of this, if you purchase a ticket, it will be transferable. But your friend will not be able to pick up beer for him/herself because each person can only pick up one individual allocation of beer. Whomever is picking up the beer (e.g., your friend) using the ticket may do so, as long as they can meet the requirements above.

  4. Will Doom be on draft when we pick up our beer? I see this release being the same the release for Bolt Cutter, and it was a little frustrating that Founder’s was asking us to buy beer without the opportunity to try it when we picked up our bottles. Either way looking forward to another stud in the backstage series. cheers,

    Brian

  5. Well if the ticket purchasing on BPT goes like the one for KBS just did then why bother. BPT doesn’t seem set up for the high traffic.

  6. Please don’t use that crap website Brown Paper Tickets. It can’t handle the traffic as witnessed by the KBS ticket release. It’s a bunch of garbage.

  7. Please use brownpapertickets.com because they are so good. Trust me when you sold KBS tickets they crashed for 25 minutes. I would love to have a ticket in my possession again and watch the site crash and my ticket go away.

  8. What is possibility of getting a keg? I live a long ways away and cant make to taproom easily and would love to have in my bar!

    • A limited amount of kegs will be available through our distributor partners–please contact the Founders distributor in your area for more information.

    • The bottle release will be handled a bit differently on-site: please see the details above for more information.
