Sweet Repute Is Our Winter 2013 Backstage Series Release

We plan to introduce Sweet Repute, a wheat wine aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels, this December to mark the eighth installment in our Backstage Series. Like all Backstage Series beers, Sweet Repute will be sold in 750mL bottles. It has a suggested retail price of $17.99–$19.99 per bottle.

Our brewing team painstakingly choreographed each layer of this beer’s characteristics, starting with a healthy wheat and roasted malt base and adding clean, fragrant hops. It’s one hundred percent barrel-aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels and bourbon barrels over the course of sixteen months, then blended using carefully calculated ratios for the ultimate final product. The resulting 12.6% ABV liquid pours a bright warm russet with a stubborn ivory head and an intoxicatingly sweet nutty aroma. We put Sweet Repute in a larger bottle with sharing in mind.

“We’re excited about this one,” said Co-Founder and Vice President of Brand & Education Dave Engbers. “Every sample we’ve pulled from the barrels down in the caves has been incredible.”

Sweet Repute will join the ranks of our world-class barrel-aged beers, such as Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS), Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS), Backwoods Bastard, Curmudgeon’s Better Half and many, many more taproom-only ales.

Sweet Repute will be released in limited quantities across our distribution footprint beginning on Monday, December 2, and will be available at our taproom the same week. This will be our last Backstage Series release in 2013, with more releases to come in 2014.

  1. Hi! Are we going to see some in Toronto? Finally saw some Founders in the LCBO! Please hook up our evil government monopoly so regular folk can enjoy without a 5 hour drive to Grand Rapids (not that that would actually be a bad thing mind you….)

    • Hi Kevin! We only have Centennial IPA in Ontario right now–we are going to get a few additional selections there this fall for a limited period of time, but we don’t distribute our Backstage Series beers there. I know it’s a long drive, but a trip to Michigan is probably your best bet if you want to try this beer.

  2. Can you guys come to Alaska next? Boy, do I miss Founder’s! There are some outstanding breweries you could collaborate with up here. 😉

  3. Is this based off the Nemesis beers? I’m trying to figure out what “tap room specialty” this is. Looking forward to it by the way.

  4. Will New York get some? Specifically the beer necessities in New Rochelle, NY?? Kidding about that second question (unless you know hahaha).

    • Sweet Repute will be sent to New York, yes. Our distributors handle allocations to individual retailers, so we do not have a list of accounts that may receive some. Cheers!

  5. Is any going to make its way to Connecticut? If so, can you let me know what distributor handles your beer in Connecticut so i can start camping out at the Package stores. 🙂 Thanks

    • We are planning to ship limited amounts to Connecticut. We have two distributor partners there: Drinx Unlimited in Norwalk (phone: 203.851.5666) and Hartford Distributors in Manchester (phone: 860.643.2337).

  6. Are these maple syrup bourbon barrels the same used for Blis Maple syrup just like CBS? I love Christmas morning breakfast with waffles covered in Blis and a maple syrup bourbon barrel aged 750mL bottle of Founders yumminess to wash it down.

  7. Do you know where I could get a list of distributors in Philly and New York? I’d go to either to try a bottle!
