Backstage Series Release: Lizard of Koz

We are in the midst of pulling something delicious out of bourbon barrels… something dark, chocolatey, blueberry-y and vanilla-y…. something we’ve never bottled before and we cannot wait for you to get your lips on this.

This one is near and dear to our hearts. Our Brewmaster, Jeremy Kosmicki, wanted to make the birthday of his little sister, Liz, a special one. So he did what he does best and brewed a stout using a few of her favorite ingredients: fresh Michigan blueberries, rich chocolate and vanilla – aged in bourbon barrels to round out those beautiful flavors. Liz was floored and we think you will be too.

Lizard of Koz was such a huge hit when it debuted on our taproom draft list for Black Party back in 2015 that we knew we had to bring it back somehow, someway (the employees alone begged for it). So, we did. Each 750mL bottle of this rich, tart 10.5% ABV, 40 IBUs stout has a suggested retail price of $18.99 and will be available in limited quantities across our distribution network, which currently includes 39 states, a early as mid-November with all states seeing it by December (we ship it as it is ready).

Our Backstage Series is made up of boundary-pushing, experimental beers. We affectionately call it “the brewers’ playground,” where intent is to take the diehard Founders fan experience to a wider audience—though all of the beers are released in limited batches. Since its introduction in the summer of 2011, our Backstage Series beers have quickly become some of the most sought-after releases in the industry with past hits including Bolt Cutter, CBS, Curmudgeon’s Better Half, Blushing Monk and Doom.

    When and where will this beer be available in Minnesota? Can I buy a case of .750 ml bottles?

      Hi there! Your best bet is to reach out to local retailers to see if they plan on carrying it… the limit will vary retailer to retailer as well. It should be available beginning in November with all states where we distribute seeing it by December.
