We invite you to join us for a presentation on our recent partnership with the City of Grand Rapids and their efforts to install a food waste biodigester at the Water Resource Recovery Facility on Market Ave. Representatives from Founders, the City of Grand Rapids, along with SET, Amway and Coca-Cola will be in attendance at the presentation and will field questions regarding the project. More information on biodigestion can be found here.
A few details about the partnership:
- By the end of 2017, there will be a dedicated pipeline running from Grand Rapids’ wastewater treatment plant all the way to the southwest corner of Founders. When that is complete we’ll then start directing our brewery wastewater into our tank and into in that pipeline.
- Starting in 2018, the city will have a few tanks holding wastewater from Founders, Coca-Cola, Amway and SET Environmental. By being able to meter in our wastewater slowly and whenever they want, they can stabilize their treatment process and make it more efficient.
- 2019 is when the real magic happens. This is when the digester will be finished and the city will use our wastewater to generate biogas which then generates electricity for the treatment plant to use. Biogas are a mixture of different gases produced by the breakdown of organic matter.
- This is a fantastic sustainability project for the City and we are proud to partner with them on it.
The event will take place in the Centennial Room from 4-6pm on April, 17, 2017 and is open to the public.
