What better way to highlight artisans and crafters from our home state than with beer? That’s the thought behind the Crafted In Michigan Collaboration Series: an extremely limited quarterly release of taproom exclusive beer that aims to bring awareness to local Michigan crafters through partnerships and collaboration.

Gaia Nectar

The Beer

Meet Gaia Nectar, a super juicy, complex German Wheat made with real honey sourced by our non-profit partners at Bees In The D. The tartness of blood orange mingles with the earthy sweetness of coriander and local Wildflower honey to provide a quenching and quaffable drinking experience. You won’t BEE-lieve your taste buds!

Featured Collaborator

Our first Detroit-based collaborator in the Crafted in Michigan Collaboration Series, Bees in the D, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to create a cooperative effort between residents, schools, organizations, and businesses in the city of Detroit and Southeast Michigan to contribute to both the health of honey bee colonies and native pollinators, and the education of their importance to our environment. They have successfully introduced over 10 million bees and manage over 170 honey bee hives at over 50 Michigan locations, including yours truly – Bees in the D is currently in the process of installing honey bee hives on the roof of our Detroit taproom. We’re proud to be partnering with such an environmentally impactful organization that is leading the way in education and conservation of honey bees in Michigan.

Werewolves of Michigan

The Beer

The Michigan Dogman? The Werewolf of Grosse Pointe? Whatever you want to call them, we’re paying tribute to our favorite local lycanthropes with Werewolves of Michigan. Brewed in collaboration with City Built Brewing Co., this West Coast IPA is brewed with Hydra hops for a hint of stone fruit and citrus accentuated by Mosaic hops for an IPA drinking experience that’ll leave you howling for more.

Featured Collaborator

When it was time to establish our first Grand Rapids-based collaborator for the Crafted in Michigan Collaboration Series, we instantly thought of our friends at City Built Brewing Co. Opened in 2017, City Built Brewing Co. is now a staple in the Grand Rapids brewery scene, and has set the bar high with their extensive beer and food repertoire. They believe that beer brings people together, and that craft brewing is for everyone. We couldn’t agree more!

Ginger Smiles

The Beer

Local Grand Rapids artist Esan Sommersell grew up surrounded by powerful women who moved with elegance and grace yet cooked with a fierce and fiery passion. To pay tribute to the Guyanese flavors and traditions he grew up admiring we present Ginger Smiles – a rum barrel-aged strong golden ale. Brewed with ginger and guava to celebrate the bold women and rich flavors of his youth – Ginger Smiles is sure to bring a smile to your face.

Featured Collaborator

For Grand Rapids-based artist Esan Sommersell, making is living. In a world where it’s become increasingly more difficult to discern fact from fiction, Sommersell’s paintings remind us that what we see, hear, touch, and taste cannot be separated from what we feel. With bold forms and surreal color palettes taken from the landscape of lucid dreams, his work is an affirmation of humankind’s innate desire to create, to mold, to touch the raw nerve of experience and discover for ourselves what it means to be alive.

Skyshift

The Beer

Who doesn’t love to look at the sky at twilight – that time when the sun dips below the horizon and casts an otherworldly purple shroud across the sky? That’s exactly what we set out to capture in collaboration with Arsenal Handicraft – a husband and wife artist duo from Detroit. Butterfly Pea Flowers give an ethereal appearance as the stars collide in this tart and juicy blueberry chamomile gose-style ale.

Featured Collaborator

Arsenal Handicraft is husband and wife artist duo Dennis and Christina Jacobs. They create pieces of art that not only tell a story, but take you on a journey through space and nature. Every piece displays their finely tuned ability to tap into each of our own desires to set off into the wild. Taking inspiration from their travels and home base near Detroit, every original illustration is one-of-a-kind as you can see in their breathtaking landscape artwork for Skyshift.
